Just call me the boogey man

Goblue's responses to my post, GoBlue's comments.

So I have tried to be very careful in my response. I wanted you to know that I did consider what was said. Personally I liked “You seem to indicate that you feel you are this rational person who listens and thinks and is infleuenced by rational argument.” Unless I am much mistaken, it seems you’re calling me irrational and incapable of rational thought. This could be taken as almost combative; not at all conducive to compromise and teamwork. For instance, the way you worded it “They don't ignore what they call trolls. They should--it would make the discussion so much more helpful.” Which, is by fact not helpful, if we don’t listen then it’s not a discussion it’s patting each other on the back. For one thing, it could be taken as you’re calling me a troll. I personally don’t care, but it is a very aggressive statement if you’re willing to try and work through an issue between two members of the same society. Second, even if you’re not actively calling me that, it’s the exact sentiment that they shouldn’t feel. One of the things that makes this country great is that the minority has a voice. I’m not talking about the ethnic minorities, I mean the smaller voice. I have heard too many times (sorry, read) that someone should march into Washington and take over and kick the pinko-commie-qu33rs out of the country and then we’d live happily ever after. Where is the American spirit in that? Where is “We the people…?” Hell, where is the “love thy neighbor?” Just because one doesn’t get one’s way, cause at some point everyone doesn’t get their way, that doesn’t mean it’s over. It is supposed to mean you try harder next time, and this time you just do the best you can with what you have.
As for immigration, I agree, the country needs something. What that is, I’m not sure. I’d say, we need to relax what is required to become a citizen, and then make it such that if you’re caught without the proper paperwork, then you’re deported. I say make it easier because if it was easy enough, I’m sure more people would. I do believe the nation relies on immigrant work/guest workers, so to say they’re not welcome I feel is foolish. I’ll research the actual empirical data on that at a later time. But to say that America is closed goes against what this country was, literally, discovered for.

As for abortion, I am hopeful that it will never be illegal. The reason is simple, and unfortunately something that probably won’t ever be resolved. You defend the baby’s right to life. I get that, I really do. But, I believe in the mother’s right. Perhaps it’s a religious question, I mean did God give Mary a choice? I think he should have, I mean something like that should be her choice. But I have to agree, having just read over what is defined as Partial Birth Abortion I’m not sad that it’s illegal. I have one caveat, and that is birth defects. I can’t imagine choosing to bring a child into this world to suffer such an existence. That would be the most difficult decision ever, but I’d feel the right one. If you’ve ever been around someone who is severely deformed or retarded, I wager you’d understand. So depending on when it is medically possible to determine if the baby has any deformities/defects I would say that is the cut-off for abortion. I am adamantly against using it as birth control, after all that’s why we give them the condoms in the first place…

I just researched the Patriot Act. It is a bit too much legaleeze, but I do recall a case a few years ago where a man was wrongfully arrested when the police used the Patriot Act to listen without any wiretap order or warrant. (Looked it up, think it’s Mayfield vs USA) Now, I know that I’m not up to no good (regardless of what you and your type think of me). I am willing to bet you’re not up to no good. But I do think the government should have evidence, gathered without looking into my private affairs (email, phone, etc) before they actually start listening to my conversations. That is guaranteed under the 4th Amendment, and is not guaranteed in the Patriot Act. So when constitutional-conservatives are in complete agreement with an act that has in fact been found in court to be unconstitutional, is in my mind very confusing.

I agree, I think whoever wants to get married should be allowed to. Let them experience the same joy and sadness. I don’t think any church should be required to marry someone though, that would to me be just as unconstitutional as not allowing them. I don’t think the government can tell the church whom to or not to marry, as well as the church should have nothing to do with telling the government who can and cannot marry. That you see something as a sin is your choice. The part of the bible I always liked the most was that sins were between the sinner and god. That in fact if you’re judging them you are equally sinning.

My issue with Edwards and his lying and the whole shebang is that it has nothing to do with anything. Politicians lie; this should be a universal truth. They’re people, and people lie. That he did it on national tv, now there’s a shocker. I’d wager that every single person on tv has lied, on tv. Here’s my rationale, we won’t know they’re lying, that’s kinda implied if they are. If they don’t oust themselves then they covered it up, on tv. Name to me one person that you would fully, absolutely, trust every single word they’ve ever uttered on tv. It’s not semantics, it’s the truth, people lie but are completely surprised when they’re lied to. I would have been so shocked to have Edwards come out all by his lonesome to say he had an affair before anyone anywhere said they had evidence, I would have passed out, I’m sure. That his cronies lied to cover him up, doesn’t surprise me any more. Before you say they’re Democrats or Liberals, don’t get so high and mighty, that is what I was showing when I mentioned all the Republicans (supposed conservatives) who have been caught doing wrong of late. Systems protect themselves, that’s what they do. Whatever you feel about his wife, shouldn’t matter. She did what she felt she had to do. Maybe for him, maybe for her, maybe because she couldn’t come to terms with the betrayal, who knows? That is not for you or anyone else but her and him to be concerned with.

Personally, I thought Kerry’s mistake was his stance. Or rather, his stances. I never liked Bush, before he was president all the way up to the day he was reelected. But I knew what he was, or what he stood for. I don’t agree with about 85% of it, or at least not how he went about things, but I knew how he wanted to get things done. Kerry had more political stances then the rest of the Democratic party combined. Every sound bite he had was something different then the last.

I didn’t know there was a Gallup.com. I wondered where the Gallup Polls came from. So from 2007 “Forty-four percent of Americans are very or somewhat worried about being victims of terrorism, a level that has been stable since late 2005.” “The prevalence of terrorism in the news greatly influences concern about terrorism and views on the likelihood of terrorist attacks. When terrorist events occur in the world, or when the U.S. government elevates the threat levels, concern typically rises.” Half the country thinks there is a bad chance they’ll die from terrorism.

In one day almost 1000th of 1 percent of our population was killed by terrorism, and now 132 million people worry they’ll suffer the same fate. That speaks to me of fear, don’t know about you. Now, you say that people are still willing to go to the Super Bowl, but a poll the gallup did find that 23% of people were less willing to go to a gathering of thousands of people, with 72 % unchanged and 2% more willing. So a full quarter of the population is now afraid of large groups of people due to a terrorist threat. We’re making improvements as a country, but yeah, I’m sticking by my statement that we’re afraid.

You mentioned Terrorists’ fear. I’m not really sure what is meant by that. Fear from terrorism? That’s a subjective argument going all the way back to what I defined as terrorism. I’m afraid we’re going to wage more wars. That’s what I’m afraid of. I’m afraid of all the sons and fathers and wives and daughters that will die in war. More troops have died in Iraq then people in 9/11, has it been a fair trade?

Alright, to recap, I’ve provided empirical evidence that in fact, Americans are still afraid. Though I’m not using it as a scare tactic, merely pointing out that in fact people do use it as such. Edwards lied, and short of maybe a small quip at the end of an article that deserves nothing more of our attention. People should be allowed to marry whomever they want, and anyone’s perceived sins shouldn’t be the domain of anyone but theirs and their god’s. I’m pretty sure I’ve made a rational argument. In fact, this time, if you feel a need to rebut, maybe you can actually point out where I faltered? You don’t see the fear, which is admirable. Actually I don’t, I don’t live in fear of anything (save maybe being called up to war again). I am aware that safety is purely in my mind and that no locks, no security system, no bars will keep out the boogey man. I get in trouble with my girlfriend because I don’t lock the door at home, I drive a jeep which half the time doesn’t even have doors, I walk anywhere in this city without fear of violence though I do go through some tough neighborhoods. Not because it’s not dangerous, but because worrying is like a rocking chair, a lot of work but it doesn’t get you anywhere. Fear is the same thing.

I wanted to post a response to some of your comments on my Christians and Terrorists blog.

I'm not bothered that people don't like me or don't automatically change their minds at first wind.  And I am too long winded, always have been.  If you're interested, and I won't post this just anywhere, what bothers me is that people act this way.  If I knew of any ultra-leftwing site I'd be just as defiant and critical there.  Polarization is what's ruining this country.  Unwillingness to read, think and talk.  That's what's going to ultimately destroy the world, I fear.

My blog’s name comes from a quote from Carlos Mencia.  “Why do I hate stupid people?  Because they’re f*ckin stupid!”

When I say I hate stupid people, I don’t mean Christians or conservatives or Republicans.  Actually almost all of my friends are Christian, many are Republican, and a few would be conservative enough to appease this site.  I mean people who don’t think for themselves.  I mean people who watch the news, any channel, and just repeat what they saw on Hardball or The Factor.  Someone seeing “news” and then taking the reporters opinion as gospel is, according to my logic, a moron.

A point though, is that all the posts I’ve made on this site, except for two where I did copy a list of Republicans of recent times who were caught in scandals.  But, I did fully admit that I found and simply copied.  The rest of my posts I formulated the thoughts myself.  I went to websites to verify only, what I was typing.  So I guess does that not mean that I vetted the information or evaluated it?  I’d say though that you’re completely right, I type too much for anyone to read what I’m typing.

Some more of my history.  Served in the military for 8 years and am currently a contractor supporting the military.  Was stationed a few places throughout the country, Korea and two trips to Iraq.  My father is a Methodist minister, who still serves a church not far from my house.  I own my own house and my girlfriend and my brother live with me.  I was raised Catholic, as my mother after their divorce converted to Catholicism.  I’ve also attended several different denominations, as well as non-denominational, before settling on Buddhism after an intentional search of a religion.  I felt there had been too many good people throughout history that have not been Christian that I refuse to believe or can’t even understand how they would be in hell just because they’re not Christian.  So if that is the case, then surely there is another way to heaven.  I also believe that any religion, or even lack of religion, is faith based.  Even atheists have a faith.  Their faith may be science, or it may be faith in nothing, but that is still faith.  My faith is that my intelligence will lead me to Nirvana.  If you don’t know that is, I suggest you go to www.buddhanet.com and read for yourself, without trusting what someone else told you about the religion.  There seems to be a lot of misconceptions at play here.

I do equate Bush and Bin Laden in the sense, as I said, that they both use terror to their advantage.  I will explain, if you’ll stay with me a little longer.  Americans are afraid.  We’re afraid of everything.  My girlfriend is afraid to run alone because someone might abduct her.  My mother, up until she died, worried constantly about the crime in this town.  From what I can gather, we (all Americans) are pretty worried about money, either because we have it or because we don’t.  We’re scared out of our minds that those evil Muslim Jihadists are going to come and kill us all.  But do you know how you beat fear?  Honestly?  Fear is an emotion, I cannot beat your fear.  I can check your closets and under your bed, but when the lights go off, you’re still going to be afraid.  That is until you think differently.  Decide that shadow isn’t a murderer but just the streetlight coming through the trees.  But whenever we see the constant flow of terror alerts and how all these countries are plotting to kill us all, that doesn’t make us less fearful, that makes us more fearful.  That is what Bin Laden wants!  He doesn’t even have to release videos any more, we’re so stirred up in a frenzy that someone farts and we all jump.  Bush propagated this for his own gains.  If you think the Patriot Act is in any way constitutional you need to take another government class.  But he pushed it through to look for terrorists (of which I’m actually not aware of any terrorists being caught here in America) and to keep us safe.  Are we safer?  People in the US seem to still be frightened, as much if not more, as always.  So I say yes, that was a blatant use of fear to further a political gain.

Now, let’s see, I’ve been accused of being a lot of things, commie, qu33r, dumblocrap (??), leftist, there’s more but I don’t want to go on, none of which I am.  I’ve been accused of not doing my own fact checking, of which I fully disclosed I could neither confirm nor deny what I was saying (in the single instance, all the others I do fully stand by my research and will and can provide sources upon request).  I’ve also been accused of using faulty or no logic.  I’m pretty sure I’ve dispelled all of these untruths, but I’m sure there will be more after this post.

Great quote I got this morning and felt it applies about 98% of the time on this site.

“Little progress can be made by merely attempting to repress what is evil; our great hope lies in developing what is good.” – Calvin Coolidge.

What is a Christian and a Terrorist

Hitler calling himself a Christian doesn't make him one.  But then what does make one a Christian?  Following the bible?  What about when you falter?  I mean, hey, at any mention of someone not meeting the criteria, it's reminded that a Christian is one who tries, but sometimes fails.  So what then would be the real litmus test?  How about upbringing?  I mean, Hitler was raised Catholic, and was confirmed (if you're not Catholic, maybe you're unfamiliar with this.  When you're born you're christened then some time later have first communion, then after puberty you choose to be confirmed, kinda like being baptized in a lot of other denominations) so by that standard, he is Christian.  I did see where there was some speculation if he actually wanted to be, so that would play a part in it, but nowhere did I see where he actually, forcefully, officially renounced being Christian, so you could then argue his faith was just shaken.  But, he did have a dream that God spoke to him, and told him he was destined for something special one day.  It wasn’t a burning bush mind you, but that has some weight to it.  But we still haven’t defined what it means to be Christian.  Growing up it was taught that any answers about Christianity can be found in the bible.  "You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you" (Acts 1:8)  But, as previously stated, Hitler had a vision of somesort which he took to mean God or the Holy Spirit, so that kinda makes me think he is.  But, "fruit of the Spirit, which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control" (Gal. 5:22,23) does tend to not really help that case.  By the way, I found these passages from: http://www.christinyou.net/pages/what2bxn.html  Alas I don't know if Hitler was Christian or not.  I suppose you could say that is simply between him and God.  There is no way you can prove he wasn't, just as there is no way you can prove he was.  Perhaps after crossing over to the next relm we'll see him in either heaven or hell and that will tell us.

Their final statement on what it is to be a Christian is: "A Christian is one in whom Jesus Christ lives by His Spirit, and one who allows the life and character of Jesus Christ to be lived out through his behavior, in order to function as intended to the glory of God (cf. Isa. 43:7)."  But by that standard, wars wouldn’t be committed, and I’m not talking crusades, I’m talking Grenada, Iraq, Afghanistan.  If we say that those were protective measures, then why didn’t we do anything for Rwanda?  If we’re supposed to be “fruit of the Spirit… love, joy, peace, patience, kindness…” why are so many ultra-conservatives so eager to wage war?

I didn’t have to go back 1000 years (oh and the 5th Crusade was launched somewhere around 1600AD) for any of that.

Terrorists… well, see, I’d say that there are terrorists the world over.  Some are in Iran, some are in Iraq (met them personally), some are hiding in Afghanistan or Pakistan, some are in the White House, some are out in a field somewhere in Kansas or Ohio (or wherever it was that Timothy and Terry were from).  How dare I?  I’m sure that’s the response.  Terrorist, defined: a person who tries to frighten people or governments into doing what he/she wants by using or threatening violence (cited: Kernerman  English Multilingual Dictionary).  So a person, any person, who threatens violence to exact their will, that doesn’t sound like maybe whenever the heat was on the Bush administration a new Yellow Alert pops up about the latest threats of terrorism?  Cause I think it does.  Oddly enough, when one joins the military you take an oath to defend America against its enemies, foreign and domestic.

Poor Ann Coulter

I tried to post this to her jihad against Edwards, but it wouldn't let me get the entire post in.  So maybe I can make a blog at least?  Have the Rightwingers managed to stifle free thought even here??

You wanted an apology from all the trolls and whatever else for posting mean comments (cause we probably hurt the poor girl's feelings).  I'm sorry.  Wait... no, I'm not.  What in this article would make me want to say I'm sorry?  That she is intentionally continuing a witch hunt?  Or perhaps it's the lovely way she disparages a former president's family and heritage?  I only ask because many of you are so adamant that we shouldn't ever talk badly about our president, how dare we talk badly about our fearless leader.  Well, unless he's a Democrat.

But while you're conflicting between calling a man gay and a rabid hounddog, as well as bringing up that someone died in a completely unrelated case, I hope you are willing and able to turn that microscope back to your own people.  Just a couple of names, Vitter, Craig, or Foley.  It appears that Vitter had been a long time client of the madam, and Craig had a supposed 10 years of sending his seedy text messages, and that was covered up by the Republicans.  Yet... a man has an affair, and wow he tried to cover it up.  Do you, any of you but especially Ann Coulter who makes her living in the public spotlight, open and freely admit all (or even any??) of your unknown flaws and mistakes?  Comeon people, stop drooling over the opportunity to tear a man down and think!  Your beloved McCain cheated on his wife, where are all the articles on this site making note of that?  But he wasn't a candidate then... right?  That's your argument.  How then is it unfair that your antagonists say Edwards wasn't a candidate?  He was in the public spotlight, that's right.  But then the young Mr. McCain wanted to be, so he knew what was coming.  Though, the politicians of that day were protected their little infidelities by the media, conservative or liberal, up until your flagship Republican Tricky Dick.  I know... here I am bringing up ancient history, rather then jumping on the bandwagon and helping destroy someone.  Shame on me...

So I found this on answers.yahoo.com.  I can neither confirm nor deny any of the factual errors.  But I will say, I do remember many of these from news stories.  While I'm sure you'll argue this just proves how slanted the media is against Republicans, but in the midst of every news channel airing Edwards dirty laundry, it seems completely rediculous to try that argument, now doesn't it?

The Yahoo! Answers link I found this on.  Scroll down to "One Person Counts" post.  If you have issue with the information, please take up issue with them.  I am copying the information, but I am also citing I haven't verified any of it, and gave the link to where it can be found.

Harold

I don't know if this was directed at me, but there was a comment closely following one of mine that struck me as maybe an attack at me.  I could however be wrong.  But either way, I wanted to reply.  There are some sentiments that are way too prevelent in our society today.

Do What Works
In on of my careers I taught a rehabilitation class to inmates. I used to tell them that to stay out of the system they have to learn to do what works.

-An excellent point! I heartedly agree. I hope you did then tell them that what they had been doing, thus far, wasn’t that? As a recovering _____, you probably are aware of the truism in Alcoholics Anonymous as to what insanity is? Trying the same thing over and over again expecting different results each time.

I left the utopian ignorance of extreme liberalism because I began to realize that nothing of modern liberalism promoted goodness or growth or humanity in general.

-Left one extreme for another? What’s wrong with the middle?

I was pro-abortion, pro-gay, anti-christian, pro-extreme environmentalism, and on & on ad nauseam. Until I began to see that modern liberalism only promotes death & destruction.

-Not true. Modern liberalism doesn’t promote anything. It doesn’t exist. People promote things. Not all things are promoted by all people. Not all people agree on what should be promoted. To lump an entire section of population by a single trait, is simply stereotyping.

Abortion kills. Trillions [literally] on social welfare has killed the black family. The feminist-q....r agenda is destroying the american family. The anti-progress, anti-oil, anti-america agenda of extreme environmentalism and the global warming lie is starving folks in places like Hatii & other 3rd world. [don't tell me it isn't about that, I subscribed to the agenda] And on & on & on!!!

-So you’re saying that trillions of abortions have destroyed the black family? I’m not exactly clear what that means. Also, as a prior far-left liberal you should then be aware that feminism and queerism (well… you kinda lumped them together, so it made sense) aren’t together, and thus can’t have a combined agenda. But couldn’t it be said that it was the destruction of the family resulted in homosexuality? I mean, I’m sure you’re of the mind that queers, as you so fondly refer to them as, aren’t born, but rather choose to be gay. If they hadn’t come from a broken family, then they wouldn’t be gay, right? Anti-progress and anti-oil agenda; what? Wouldn’t it be progressive to seek alternative fuels? Is there really any doubt that at some point, in one way or another, oil will dry up? And lastly, how does environmentalism have any effect on Haiti?

And then we have the self-obsessed, childish, ignorant know nothings talk about OTHERS being closed-minded.

I will tell them exactly what I used to tell the inmates. YOU NEED TO GROW UP.

-I’m assuming these are directed at me, as here over the last little bit I have been the loudest (at least most long-winded) opponent to this article’s line of logic. But, how do you know that I need to grow up? I’m 28, maybe you did click on my bio and read that? But Einstein was younger then this when he created his theories of relativity, so age must not be the only part of the equation. Maybe it’s because I’m from Alabama, and we all know how backwards we are down here. But I’ll have you know that in my short lifetime I’ve lived in Tennessee (not helping my case), South Carolina, North Carolina, Colorado, Mississippi, Republic of Korea and for a short period of time Iraq. So surely that adds some to my being a grown up. But then it must be that I know nothing. Except, thus far I’ve had a few critical replies from comments on this site, and none have actually tried to dispute anything I’ve said. I had one grammatical mistake mentioned, though it wasn’t actually a mistake, but rather a point of view. I’ve had a really hard to understand retort about something like I need to check my facts, but didn’t show where I had made a mistake and had in fact not brought anything new to light. I can only assume no news is good news, I must have been correct.

But I want to ask some questions and a challenge or two. Why is oil better then solar? Why is it bad to try to help the earth that we live on? Why is it that we don’t mind killing in the name of salvation, but aren’t willing to not kill for the same?

Oil will dry up. Face it. Maybe not in my life time. Maybe we humans will kill ourselves off with nuclear war first, but sooner or later, it will end. What will we do then? What will we do while it’s drying up? Do you realize that gas is not the part of that barrel of oil that will bite you in the butt? Think about all the plastics you touch daily. Remember the commercial from something like American Plastics, that showed someone walking through their house or in their car and all the plastic drying up? But then don’t forget that most of the pesticides we use and herbicides and pharmaceuticals we touch are actually created from the byproducts of oil. And you’re surely saying Natural Gas is the answer! But you do realize that Natural Gas is a byproduct of the oil industry, right? And actually let’s talk about gas that we’re all worried about. Our entire way of life is centered on gas. It’s not the gas you put in your car to drive to your job, it’s the gas in the car that brings you your pizza tonight. It’s the gas in the truck that delivered the ingredients to the pizza place. It’s the gas in the tractor that harvested the grains and tomatoes. It’s the gas in the little four-wheeler that the farmer uses to get around the farm where the beef and pigs are raised that made that pepperoni and ham. So are you still so short-sighted to assume that oil is the way to go? Now, off-shore drilling is a hot buzz word here lately. Want to discuss that? What would it hurt to drill, we need the oil, right? Well, we actually have oil, the only reason that the price has gone so hi, say most economists, isn’t the supply, but the demand. Speculation, not the amount of oil available, seems to be the reason oil has skyrocketed. Now that it seems the bubble is slowing or bursting, will we still need more oil? But what about the ocean we drill it out of? So what right? You were awake the day they taught you that the majority of the oxygen in the atmosphere that we depend on comes from the algae and small creatures of the ocean, right? But, some historians are starting to suggest that the majority of carbon dioxide came from dying creatures in the ocean. So yeah, good thinking, kill off those plants, for a little drop of oil and a whole lot of money! So I’m anti-progressive because I would prefer that oil not be king any more. So what? But wait, with the exception of the original car creators, biofuel has been a new thing. I may be mistaken on the actual plant, but I know that when Diesel created his engine, he envisioned it to run on peanut oil. That was very progressive for his day. Well, mainly because there wasn’t oil. How about we use the sun? That’s definitely a new concept! Well, other then the fact that mother nature or god or whatever has been using sunlight to fuel this planet for somewhere between six thousand and six billion years. Wind… well, I won’t mention windmills because they only provided early civilization the means to eat. I’m getting catty now.

Where do you live? Your name says California. That’s in America, on the North American continent if my schooling was worth it. But… that continent is on the planet Earth, yes? We live on Earth! You live in a house, you don’t wait until the house is falling down before you do some work on it, right? Maybe you like your house so you spend a little time and money keeping it looking good. Maybe you’re just simply image-conscious and keep it looking better then your neighbor. Why shouldn’t we do that to our home planet? Even if global warming is a lie, even if there is no such thing as the greenhouse effect and that nothing man has ever done has caused anything detrimental, why is it bad practice to just simply try to do a little more to help the planet? That is greedy. That is very greedy. You have the means to potentially help something that you rely on for life, but aren’t willing to because as you see it, there is no need.

I was on my way to school, was 17 and in my junior year of high school. I couldn’t figure out why the traffic was so nonexistent, but I didn’t complain since I was habitually late that year. Apparently, as I learned after I got to school, that less then two blocks from my high school an extreme rightwing Christian believer tried to blow up an abortion clinic. It struck me as very confusing how someone who is Christian could, no would, try to kill someone or destroy something based on belief. It was celebrated here. A strike against the leftist murderers that would be willing to destroy life! Destroy life? Isn’t that what bombs do? When I was in training to deactivate bombs I learned first hand that bombs are meant to kill and maim. It worked. People were dead or wounded because someone wanted to save life. Am I the only one that sees the flaw in this logic? I’m not a fan of abortion, but then I also don’t feel I have the right to tell another human being what they can do with their body. If you feel so strongly that a woman who is having a baby doesn’t have the right or ability to decide if her child should live, I suspect then when a few months ago a family allowed their daughter to die because they left her life in God’s hands you took offense. You’re telling me one parent doesn’t have the right to decide about the prospects of her child, yet another does, with the outcome the same in those two cases? Again, faulty logic. But rather then killing to save lives, why is it looked down upon, especially from the right, when someone tries to peacefully (i.e. not killing) save lives? People bash politicians who call for talks with countries not to be mentioned, rather then just running in and killing them all. I guess the axiom is true, kill them all and let god sort them out. That is again, faulty logic.

I once told my dad I was prejudiced. I hated prejudiced people, and thus if I hated someone I didn’t know, I must be prejudiced. I had a classmate in high school who once said she hated close minded people. It struck me as odd that someone who claimed to be open minded would be so close minded…

ricardoh

So I was reading over the comments at the end of Why I am not a liberal and I came across two from someone named ricardoh.  I found them to be too irresistable to well... resist.  My comments will begin with a dash (-).  The entire rest of this was copied from the comments section of Why I am not a liberal.

-Oh this is going to be fun!
From ricardoh:
Subject: Hal Donahue - you are of course wrong
I said: "When islam teaches hatred of Jews in their schools, that is not a Judeo-Christian value; .."

You said: "You fool. Nor is it an Islamic value Mohammid ALWAYS urged protection for the "people of the book".

They don’t care what you think. They still teach it in their schools. IT IS THEIR value system and they justify it with their Koran, not what you claim you think they are "urging". In fact they are urging the exact opposite - hatred of Jews, and justifying it with the Koran.

- So if it’s their system, how do you know? Are you or were you Muslim? Do you actually know any Muslims? And of course, all people of a religion are prime representatives of that religion right? Hitler was a Christian. The crusaders were Christian. The Chinese that rose up to oust the Mongels were Buddhist (oh, that’s Buddha with an h). So you’re judging an entire religion that’s almost as old as yours (presumably) off of what a few people, hell even a few thousand people, believe without trying to learn or experience the rest of that religion? How was that snake-handling church you used to go to? And of course, you don’t judge Islamic people based on your good book, do you? No… of course not, that would make you a heretic, as doesn’t your bible say to leave the judgments to God, and that we are all created in his image and thus deserve the same respect we give him??

An Iranian swimmer in the Olympics refused to compete because a Jew was in the same race. That is THEIR value system and they DO justify it with their value system, which is in fact based on the Koran.

- At least according to AP news, the man was sick, at least that’s what the Iranian government said. So because you believe Iran so perfectly represents Islam then they wouldn’t ever tell a lie either.

We use a Judeo-Christian value system, the same one this country was founded on. It was not founded on Budda, it was not founded on the Koran, it was founded on the values of the Bible, despite all denials, despite all dismissals, despite all distortions, despite all demeaning and insults of the religious right.

- I have a few quotes for you. John Adams said: “The substance and essence of Christianity, as I understand it, is eternal and unchangeable, and will bear examination forever, but it has been mixed with extraneous ingredients, which I think will not bear examination, and they ought to be separated.”
He also said: "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion…" Treaty of Tripoly, article 11

"Suppose a nation in some distant region should take the Bible for their only law book and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited…. What a Eutopia, what a Paradise would this region be." (John Adams)

"e who made all men hath made the truths necessary to human happiness obvious to all… Our forefathers opened the Bible to all." (Samual Adams)

- Something else Sam Adams (not the beer guy) said: “How strangely will the Tools of a Tyrant pervert the plain Meaning of Words!” I’d take that to mean you can, in fact, twist anything to say anything you want it to.

From ricardoh
Hal Donahue - wrong again

I said : "... when female genital mutilation is still being practiced in some muslim countries, that is not a Judeo-Christian value system;"

You said: "nor is it a Muslim value system in any why, shape or form"”.

- So what then do Judeo-Christian people do? Weren’t most of the slaves brought to America brought by Christian traders? Weren’t they bought by Christian people? Ok, but then they were just beasts, right?  Also, look further down for a continuation of this mistruth.

(United Nations): "It is estimated tht over 130 million women have had some form of female genital mutilation performed on them. This practice is often associated with the religion of Islam, and is most often perfomed in Middle Eastern and North African countries."

You said: "no one says equal but they do say respect and right to life".

- Some interesting facts that relate to this statement and the one prior. First, it was Amnesty International that did this study. The 130 million figure is cumulative, with approx 2 million annually. And their study actually found that it transcends religion, but if you insist that religion is the cause, then you’d be surprised to learn that the practice predates both Islam and Christianity. However… the practice today is followed by Muslims, and… Christians!!! So… what now?  I would like to make one piece of commentary that 2 million people, that is just about one third of a percent of the global population. In fact, it’s just about one and a half percent of America’s population.

(PETA): "Animals should have the right to equal consideration of their interests. Animals deserve consideration of their best interests (just as a mentally challenged human has rights)."

That does not jive with Genesis 1:28. The Bible is the primary source of our values with respect to animals; it was never PETA.

- Was the part about mentally challenged people your addition? Did you really just compare mentally challenged people to dogs? Some more interesting bible quotes:
“rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth” Gen 1:28 So then we rule everything? Shouldn’t a ruler be compassionate then?
"Thus a married woman is bound by law to her husband as long as he lives..." Romans 7:2, though it does go on to say a man is bound to her, so I guess we’re all property.
"When a man strikes his slave, male or female, with a rod and the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. But if the slave survives a day or two, he is not to be punished; for the slave is his money." Exodus 21:20

The source of our nation's values come from one source - the Bible. But the secular irreligious hate the Bible and their attack on it and many of our values will never stop, nor will their demeaning of the rest of us who seek to strengthen and preserve those values.

- Nope… again, this country is not, as you proclaim, based on the bible. Or Christianity. It’s based primarily on the pre-Christian Greek and Roman rules of civilization. I was recently referred to the side of the Supreme Court building as justification of proof that America was based on Christian values, since Moses and his tablets appear there. But if that is your only proof then it must be that you are aware that Mohammed does too. As well as Confucius, which I guess means we’re also Islamic and Taoist. But then so does Napoleon so we’re also an evil empire that tries to take over the world. Solomon and Solon do too… guess it’s true, we are a multi-cultural, multi-religious country bent on world domination and the desire to make the world in our image. I mean, I’m just using your logic here, you can’t fault me for that.

"PROCLAIM LIBERTY THROUGHOUT ALL THE LAND UNTO ALL THE INHABITANTS THEREOF LEV. XXV X." (Liberty Bell)

“You shall thus consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim a release through the land to all its inhabitants It shall be a jubilee for you, and each of you shall return to his own property, and each of you shall return to his family.” Lev 25:10(New American Standard). I’d say that speaks more then just we should all be religious. Seems like we should all party!

So though I couldn't quite make it up to 17,000 characters like I did before, but then this wasn't nearly as poorly written or poorly thoughout as what I replied to earlier.  I will say, it is logic like this that permeats too much of our country.  If we're the greatest country ever, then shouldn't we be above such crap?  Shouldn't we transcend bad logic and sensless hatred based on religion or equally human created trappings?  I'm unfortunately unable to post this in the actual comments section so that ricardoh will be able to read or reply.  But maybe I can coax him into trying out his logic here?

What have I stubled on?

Is this site devoted to right wing neo-nazis who aren't willing to look in a mirror but are more then willing and more then able to preach how bad liberals are and how horrible the clintons, how horrible edwards, how horrible democrats are?  I hereby warn you, I will be your conscience.  I will be that little voice that says you're stupid when you spew hateful remarks like all that's wrong in the world is result of liberals.  That little voice that nags when you preach how right you are and how moral your majority is, that's me.

A vendetta

That's all I can call it.  Dennis Prager just rubs me wrong.  You know why?  I hate stupid people.  That's not to say he's not intelligent.  I know lots of people who are intelligent and yet still stupid.  This is a short post, because I'm busy putting in comments on some of his dumb articles.

Dennis Prager is a nazi

Now that I have your attention.  Actually, I just hate stupid people.

Here's why:

I found this editorial and couldn't help but reply.  It is an editorial, and thus just simply his opinion, but that doesn't mean it's right or that he is in anyway protected from scrutiny.  Here is the link: Why I am not a liberal

Who knew there were so many replies? Amazing the man still is bold enough to speak (or type) in public.

We’ll be very judicial in this dissection:

I believe in American exceptionalism, meaning that (a) America has done more than any international organization or institution, and more than any other country, to improve this world; and (b) that American values (specifically, the unique American blending of Enlightenment and Judeo-Christian values) form the finest value system any society has ever devised and lived by.

-So you’re an elitist? But… first, (a) Are we forgetting the Greeks? Romans? I’d say that Asia has probably added a fair amount (god bless gun powder after all…). Or then you must mean music, because I certainly believe Matchbox 20 is a good contrast to Beethoven. What about the Aztecs, or those little anthills along that little creek in Egypt? They probably didn’t add anything to this world either. So you must then be referring to the Atom bomb, cause we know how much you conservatives like war. (b) Article 11 of the Treaty with Tripoli which specifically states that; "the government of the United States is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion..." This treaty was negotiated by the American diplomat Joel Barlow during the administration of George Washington. Washington read it and approved it, although it was not ratified by the senate until John Adams had become president. When Adams signed it, he added this statement to his signature "Now, be it known, that I, John Adams, President of the United States of America, having seen and considered the said treaty, do, by and within the consent of the Senate, accept, ratify and confirm the same, and every clause and article thereof."

I believe that the bigger government gets and the more powerful the state becomes, the greater the threat to individual liberty and the greater the likelihood that evil will ensue. In the 20th century, the powerful state, not religion, was the greatest purveyor of evil in the world.

-Well, I’d agree, except that you seem to state you’re not a fan of big brother, but as a confirmed conservative and (I’m assuming here) a Bush fan, you of course then support and are glad for the Patriot Act, which does allow the federal government to go into your personal life without warrant, and after finding evidence, then is court admissible. I’d have to ask George Orwell if that counts as Big Brother.

I believe that the levels of taxation advocated by liberals render those taxes a veiled form of theft. "Give me more than half of your honestly earned money or you will be arrested" is legalized thievery.

-Spoken as a true rich person. As only the first $102K of your income is taxed as a part of social security, but my entire pay check (which with some rough math skills) seems about %40 less after taxes come out, now that we’re enjoying how kind and low taxing your conservative government (cause it’s only been two years now that the Dems have had majority) can be.

I believe that government funding of those who can help themselves (e.g., the able-bodied who collect welfare) or who can be helped by non-governmental institutions (such as private charities, family, and friends) hurts them and hurts society.

-So wait… so we’re clear you’re still ok with unable-bodied people collecting welfare, but who decides that? And what’s the difference between charity and tax, if either way my money coming out of my pocket benefits someone else? And what’s the difference between family and friends and society? Speak clearly man!

I believe that the United States of America, from its inception, has been based on the Judeo-Christian value system, not secular Enlightenment values alone, and therefore the secularization of American society will lead to the collapse of America as a great country.

-Ah ha… ha… ha… See my earlier comment. Or I found a very in-depth argument on theinformationparadox.com about whether this country was intended to be Judeo-Christian or not. And what about Quakers, I mean, weren’t they pretty instrumental in establishing this country? And… secular Enlightenment, kinda obviously, is secular. If America is a great country based on religion, then heaven help us all, cause we’re f*cked.

I believe that some murderers should be put death; that allowing all murderers to live does not elevate the value of human life, but mocks it, and that keeping all murderers alive trivializes the evil of murder.

-That would lead to the death of all people on earth. Because… wouldn’t the murderers of the murderers be murdered? And then they’d be murdered. I’d recommend Cat’s Cradle from Kurt Vonnegut if you can’t comprehend this, though I warn you he is… liberal.

I believe that the American military has done more to preserve and foster goodness and liberty on Earth than all the artists and professors in America put together.

-I’m sure the dead men and women (oh and children) in Hiroshima and Nagasaki would agree. Or maybe the hundreds of thousands of Tokyo residents during the fire bombings. Hey, didn’t we support Sadam during Iraq/Iran wars? Well, but then we were supporting both sides, so I guess that cancels it out. I will say though, that when I served in Korea, I did see a lot of people who benefited, ironically enough from the freedom our presence granted, by protesting our very presence there.

I believe that lowering standards to admit minorities mocks the real achievements of members of those minorities.

-I can’t believe I’m going to utter this, but I agree! However… if we’re going to be brutally honest… when White people are the minority (as most predictions state within the next 20-50 years) will we still agree? I do however feel that if you’re not qualified, capable, or willing, then perhaps there’s a reason we have standards.

I believe that when schools give teenagers condoms, it is understood by most teenagers as tacit approval of their engaging in sexual intercourse.

-Hmm… so then we should stop teaching chemistry? Isn’t that what brought on Meth, Alcohol, gun powder (wait, that’s a good thing right?), or perhaps history. I mean, most places I’m aware of still teach the holocaust, so surely we’re teaching our impressionable youth to kill Jews? Cause I tell ya what, I damn well didn’t want to have sex till my teacher told me it was ok and gave me a condom.

I believe that the assertions that manmade carbon emissions will lead to a global warming that will in turn bring on worldwide disaster are a function of hysteria, just as was the widespread liberal belief that heterosexual AIDS will ravage America.

-Do what? So what is leading to global warming? Or is that a made-up fear too? I mean… you’re saying that the manmade carbon emissions are slowing down the eventual (cause let’s face it, it’s only a matter of time) global warming. Cause if manmade emissions aren’t causing it, then surely they’re preventing it! Or maybe all of us driving our crappy gas-mileage cars around and pumping out thousands of tons of carbon at our power plants and beer factories isn’t affecting anything, right? I mean, so what that all that carbon which used to be locked inside the earth, is now being released, that probably isn’t anything bad, right? Oh, and just so you know, your feared gay disease, just glancing at the CDC’s report on HIV/AIDS it looks like heterosexual males grow each year with AIDS at the same rate as homosexual male. Sounds to me like it’s a problem that all people have to deal with. Hmm…

I believe that marriage must remain what has been in every recorded civilization -- between the two sexes.

-Cause god knows gay people don’t deserve to be just as miserable as us straights huh? I then say that to make marriage as sanctimonious as most of you conservatives say, I suggest then we add to the amendment about marriage that divorce is hereby outlawed. I mean, if it’s such an important thing, then why do we allow so many divorces?? Oh, on a side note, Roman’s had this thing called the cult of the young boy. Ever wondered why David’s little soldier was so small? And I’m sure you’ve noticed. Think about it…

I believe that, whatever the reasons for entering Iraq, the American-led removal of Saddam Hussein from power will decrease the sum total of cruelty on Earth.

-What about Kim Jung-Il? Or Bush? Cause I mean, we’re really worried about the rest of the planet. But… here’s my problem. What were the reasons? I mean… Don’t just pander to me what you think I want to hear, tell me the truth. If it’s oil, fine. If it’s to depose the leader, fine. If it’s for my own safety, then show me how it benefited me.

I believe that the trial lawyers associations and teachers unions, the greatest donors to the Democratic Party, have done great harm to American life -- far more than, let us say, oil companies and pharmaceutical companies, the targets of liberal opprobrium.

-Wait… a union has done more harm then a pharmaceutical company? Have you watched any commercials for some new drug that will cure you of whatever isn’t ailing you? Dude, you must be smoking whatever it is they’re dealing! But… I admit, I mean for the bottom line of a company, having to pay its employees more is very bad, but then I’m sure that parent whose kid is retarded now because of some stupid pill probably hates the unions too. At least they would if they were a conservative.

I believe that nuclear power, clean coal, and drilling in a tiny and remote frozen part of Alaska and offshore -- along with exploration of other energy alternatives such as wind and solar power -- are immediately necessary.

-I agree with about 40% of that statement. Nuclear is the most viable, RIGHT NOW. But, clean coal? Isn’t that an oxymoron? And drilling anywhere does this… it hurts. What does it hurt? It hurts our planet. Why is that bad? Because we live here. Isn’t oil more important then the earth? Well, ask that after we’ve raped our mother earth of all her fruits to the point we have to leave the planet (or die…) as long as there’s enough oil to go around. But good answer on nuclear and alternative. But really, it isn’t the gas in our cars that’ll hurt when oil runs dry. It’s the plastic keys I’m tying on, the LCD screen I’m looking at. The composite desk I’m resting on. The plastic and plether chair I’m sitting in. The plastic fork in the empty microwave meal I just had. The cellulose shell around the pepto I’m about to take. The plastic bottle that contains the coke I’ll wash it down with. The… well, you get my point.

I believe that school vouchers are more effective than increased spending on public schools in enabling many poorer Americans to give their children better educations.

-What is a better education and why do you have to go to private school to get it? Is it the teachers? Can’t we hire them? Is it the uniforms? Cause we can issue uniforms for all I care. Is it the strict nun with the ruler? I have issue (painful memories) with that. You mean, it’s better for Americans to PAY for Americans to go to PRIVATE schools, rather then public? Where is the logic? You must have gone to a public school as a child.

I believe that while there are racists in America, America is no longer a racist society, and that blaming disproportionate rates of black violence and out-of-wedlock births on white racism is a lie and the greatest single impediment to African-American progress.

-I kinda agree. That is an amazing in-depth look at problems in our society. My take: the problems we (all people) have, are of our own doing. Of course it’s easy for me to say that, I’m white. But I do feel that what keeps people down is people themselves.

I believe that America, which accepts and assimilates foreigners better than any other country in the world, is the least racist, least xenophobic country in the world.

-Well… maybe except for you. I mean, that is unless they’re not racist themselves, or gay. Or in a union.

I believe the leftist takeover of the liberal arts departments in nearly every American university has been an intellectual and moral calamity.

-How many righties actually know what liberal arts is? Shouldn’t liberal arts be… I dunno… liberal? I don’t mean liberal vs. conservative, but rather liberal as in free though. Now I’m not really familiar with a leftist take over of a liberal arts department, but somehow I doubt they stifle free thought. Kinda goes against what liberals believe.

I believe that a good man and a good marriage are more important to most women's happiness and personal fulfillment than a good career.

-But what does that have to do with what women believe? I mean… I assume your wife is a homemaker (though whether you’re a good man is in question here) so other then her, shouldn’t it be up to an individual to determine what is important to them? Or was this just rhetoric?

I believe that males and females are inherently different. For example, girls naturally prefer dolls and tea sets to trucks and toy guns -- if you give a girl trucks, she is likely to give them names and take care of them, and if you give a boy trucks, he is likely to crash them into one another.

-Cause you were born a girl, right? Or your girls were allowed to choose? Cause I know a lot of women who were born tomboys would turned out to be perfectly good and natural women, who take difference with that statement. And heavens knows you didn’t play with dolls. Of course, you just called them GI Joe, right?

I believe that when it comes to combating the greatest evils on Earth, such as the genocide in Rwanda, the United Nations has either been useless or an obstacle.

-But didn’t we create it? Wasn’t it people just like you who created it? What does this diatribe have to do with anything? What then was the right action? Go in and kill people? That does seem like a good way to stop people from killing people.

I believe that, generally speaking, Western Europe provides social and moral models to be avoided, not emulated.

-So then I’m assuming you’re white from china then. Or maybe you’re eastern European, like Stalin was. Do you realize that you just said the FOUNDING fathers, of whom were descendent from Western Europe, who emulated a Western European civilization from old when the structured this country that you claim to be such a fan of. More of that public education coming back to you huh?

I believe that America's children were positively affected by hearing a non-denominational prayer each morning in school, and adversely affected by the removal of all prayer from school.

-I remember forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, so shouldn’t you forgive that some parents prefer their children be allowed to think, rather then indoctrinated? How about this for a prayer: Grant that we do not swallow all we’re taught as all there is, for there is more then we will ever know, and that may include a god or may not, and all religions may have it right, or may not. As history changes, so shall the future. Amen. I’d let my kids say that before each day of school. But why? Because, didn’t Christ question authority and the establishment? Didn’t Muhammed? Didn’t Buddha? So in that way, we’d be more resembling them then just saying a drone to something that may offend someone else.

I believe that liberal educators' removal of school uniforms and/or dress codes has had a terrible impact on students and their education.

-I agree. Wow… you just stopped me in my tracks.

I believe that bilingual education does not work, that for the sake of immigrant children and for the sake of the larger society, immersion in the language of the country, meaning English in America, is mandatory.

-I do agree with this. Well, partially. Don’t get to happy, this isn’t two in a row. Bilingual education does work. Look at most other countries throughout the planet. Many countries teach at least basic English in their schools, but they do so because let’s face it, economically all countries have to deal with us at some point. And somehow they seem to function, and in fact they seem to be doing better, in school, then we are. But, I do think immigrants should learn English. If I moved down to middle of nowhere Mexico I’d be expected to learn Spanish, or starve. Same with China. Same with Russia.

I believe that English should be declared the national language, and that ballots should not be printed in any language other than English. If one cannot understand English, one is probably not sufficiently knowledgeable to vote intelligently in an English-speaking country.

-Hold the presses… I think I… god it hurts…. Agree.

Finally, I believe that there are millions of Americans who share most of these beliefs who still call themselves "liberal" or "progressive" and who therefore vote Democrat. They do so because they still identify liberalism with pre-1970 liberalism or because they are emotionally attached to the word "liberal."

-I seriously question whether any intelligent person shares your beliefs. There are people that believe whites are superior. There are people that believe women are weaker (hey, I’m not singling you out…). They are allowed to believe that, because… tada, they’re Americans. But some basic facts usually dispel stupid beliefs. And the best part is… I get to stay here, in America, and dispute your spewings. It’s my natural born right.

I tried to post this as a comment to his article, Why I am not a liberal.  Apparently you can only post 2000 characters, and I was up around 17,000, so I had to do this.
