So I was reading over the comments at the end of
Why I am not a liberal and I came across two from someone named ricardoh. I found them to be too irresistable to well... resist. My comments will begin with a dash (-). The entire rest of this was copied from the comments section of
Why I am not a liberal.
-Oh this is going to be fun!
From ricardoh:
Subject: Hal Donahue - you are of course wrong
I said: "When islam teaches hatred of Jews in their schools, that is not a Judeo-Christian value; .."
You said: "You fool. Nor is it an Islamic value Mohammid ALWAYS urged protection for the "people of the book".
They don’t care what you think. They still teach it in their schools. IT IS THEIR value system and they justify it with their Koran, not what you claim you think they are "urging". In fact they are urging the exact opposite - hatred of Jews, and justifying it with the Koran.
- So if it’s their system, how do you know? Are you or were you Muslim? Do you actually know any Muslims? And of course, all people of a religion are prime representatives of that religion right? Hitler was a Christian. The crusaders were Christian. The Chinese that rose up to oust the Mongels were Buddhist (oh, that’s Buddha with an h). So you’re judging an entire religion that’s almost as old as yours (presumably) off of what a few people, hell even a few thousand people, believe without trying to learn or experience the rest of that religion? How was that snake-handling church you used to go to? And of course, you don’t judge Islamic people based on your good book, do you? No… of course not, that would make you a heretic, as doesn’t your bible say to leave the judgments to God, and that we are all created in his image and thus deserve the same respect we give him??
An Iranian swimmer in the Olympics refused to compete because a Jew was in the same race. That is THEIR value system and they DO justify it with their value system, which is in fact based on the Koran.
- At least according to AP news, the man was sick, at least that’s what the Iranian government said. So because you believe Iran so perfectly represents Islam then they wouldn’t ever tell a lie either.
We use a Judeo-Christian value system, the same one this country was founded on. It was not founded on Budda, it was not founded on the Koran, it was founded on the values of the Bible, despite all denials, despite all dismissals, despite all distortions, despite all demeaning and insults of the religious right.
- I have a few quotes for you. John Adams said: “The substance and essence of Christianity, as I understand it, is eternal and unchangeable, and will bear examination forever, but it has been mixed with extraneous ingredients, which I think will not bear examination, and they ought to be separated.”
He also said: "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion…" Treaty of Tripoly, article 11
"Suppose a nation in some distant region should take the Bible for their only law book and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited…. What a Eutopia, what a Paradise would this region be." (John Adams)
"e who made all men hath made the truths necessary to human happiness obvious to all… Our forefathers opened the Bible to all." (Samual Adams)
- Something else Sam Adams (not the beer guy) said: “How strangely will the Tools of a Tyrant pervert the plain Meaning of Words!” I’d take that to mean you can, in fact, twist anything to say anything you want it to.
From ricardoh
Hal Donahue - wrong again
I said : "... when female genital mutilation is still being practiced in some muslim countries, that is not a Judeo-Christian value system;"
You said: "nor is it a Muslim value system in any why, shape or form"”.
- So what then do Judeo-Christian people do? Weren’t most of the slaves brought to America brought by Christian traders? Weren’t they bought by Christian people? Ok, but then they were just beasts, right? Also, look further down for a continuation of this mistruth.
(United Nations): "It is estimated tht over 130 million women have had some form of female genital mutilation performed on them. This practice is often associated with the religion of Islam, and is most often perfomed in Middle Eastern and North African countries."
You said: "no one says equal but they do say respect and right to life".
- Some interesting facts that relate to this statement and the one prior. First, it was Amnesty International that did this study. The 130 million figure is cumulative, with approx 2 million annually. And their study actually found that it transcends religion, but if you insist that religion is the cause, then you’d be surprised to learn that the practice predates both Islam and Christianity. However… the practice today is followed by Muslims, and… Christians!!! So… what now? I would like to make one piece of commentary that 2 million people, that is just about one third of a percent of the global population. In fact, it’s just about one and a half percent of America’s population.
(PETA): "Animals should have the right to equal consideration of their interests. Animals deserve consideration of their best interests (just as a mentally challenged human has rights)."
That does not jive with Genesis 1:28. The Bible is the primary source of our values with respect to animals; it was never PETA.
- Was the part about mentally challenged people your addition? Did you really just compare mentally challenged people to dogs? Some more interesting bible quotes:
“rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth” Gen 1:28 So then we rule everything? Shouldn’t a ruler be compassionate then?
"Thus a married woman is bound by law to her husband as long as he lives..." Romans 7:2, though it does go on to say a man is bound to her, so I guess we’re all property.
"When a man strikes his slave, male or female, with a rod and the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. But if the slave survives a day or two, he is not to be punished; for the slave is his money." Exodus 21:20
The source of our nation's values come from one source - the Bible. But the secular irreligious hate the Bible and their attack on it and many of our values will never stop, nor will their demeaning of the rest of us who seek to strengthen and preserve those values.
- Nope… again, this country is not, as you proclaim, based on the bible. Or Christianity. It’s based primarily on the pre-Christian Greek and Roman rules of civilization. I was recently referred to the side of the Supreme Court building as justification of proof that America was based on Christian values, since Moses and his tablets appear there. But if that is your only proof then it must be that you are aware that Mohammed does too. As well as Confucius, which I guess means we’re also Islamic and Taoist. But then so does Napoleon so we’re also an evil empire that tries to take over the world. Solomon and Solon do too… guess it’s true, we are a multi-cultural, multi-religious country bent on world domination and the desire to make the world in our image. I mean, I’m just using your logic here, you can’t fault me for that.
"PROCLAIM LIBERTY THROUGHOUT ALL THE LAND UNTO ALL THE INHABITANTS THEREOF LEV. XXV X." (Liberty Bell)
“You shall thus consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim a release through the land to all its inhabitants It shall be a jubilee for you, and each of you shall return to his own property, and each of you shall return to his family.” Lev 25:10(New American Standard). I’d say that speaks more then just we should all be religious. Seems like we should all party!
So though I couldn't quite make it up to 17,000 characters like I did before, but then this wasn't nearly as poorly written or poorly thoughout as what I replied to earlier. I will say, it is logic like this that permeats too much of our country. If we're the greatest country ever, then shouldn't we be above such crap? Shouldn't we transcend bad logic and sensless hatred based on religion or equally human created trappings? I'm unfortunately unable to post this in the actual comments section so that ricardoh will be able to read or reply. But maybe I can coax him into trying out his logic here?
